Alpenglow
Join the Butler University Symphonic Wind Ensemble for the premiere performance of Stacy Garrop’s Alpenglow, a double concerto for alto saxophone and tuba. As the title suggests, the work is inspired by the optical phenomenon known as “Alpenglow,” an effect that occurs when high altitude mountains briefly offer a unique vivid pink and purple coloration due to the rising or setting sun. Bringing these colors to life will be Butler’s own Heidi Radtke on alto saxophone, and Anthony Kniffen on Tuba. The program will also feature the music of Valerie Coleman, Peter Meechan, John Philip Sousa, Percy Grainger, and Dmitiri Shostakovich.
